FIVE LOAVES FOOD PANTRY STORE

Open Mondays – Wednesdays and Saturdays  5 – 8 p.m.

Our food pantry sustained some flooding due to hurricane Irene last month.  Our contractor is in the process of replacing some sheetrock.  We will reopen on Monday, October 3.  We continue to need volunteers and legumes (beans) of any kind for the food pantry ministry. Our food pantry is in low supply and needs the following donations:  rice, beans of any kind, cereal any kind, canned meat, canned vegetables, any pasta and  plastic bags  If you have any or all of the above, please bring it to worship one Sunday or drop it off at the food pantry during operating hours, Monday, Wednesday & Saturday evenings 5 – 8 pm.  Your donation in very much appreciated.  We are now serving over 500 people a month.  If you are available on the third Wednesday of every month from 10:30 am till noon, come by the church and help unload the monthly food order.  Bring gloves and something with which to hydrate your body. We usually receive over a thousand pounds of free foods in each month’s order.

SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT SUNDAYS

In an effort to offer continuing spiritual development to our members, Pastor Shepler will be providing a teaching sermon every second Sunday of the month, beginning in October 9.  On this Sunday there will be a sermon outline and study questions printed out in the morning bulletin for use during the following week.

LADIES LUNCH

The ladies lunch group is changing their meeting date to the second Tuesday of every month starting at noon.  All ladies of the church and their friends are invited to participate.  This season’s study will be coming from the book, BRAVE, honest questions women ask,  written by Angela Thomas

FLOWER SIGN-UP LIST

A new flower sign-up list has been placed on the bulletin board.  Please help to make our sanctuary beautiful and volunteer to bring in a bouquet to share.  Kindly contact Kathy in the church office if you would like to have a dedication written in the bulletin.

OZANAM EMERGENCY MEN’S SHELTER

Today will be the first day that sixteen men will begin sleeping in our facility. The men will be arriving between 7 and 9 pm and stay overnight till 7 am the next morning, through Saturday evening, February 11.  This year we are providing shelter for the men over a 2 week period instead of one week.

We provide breakfast foods before they leave in the morning and lunch foods for them to take with them.   Our Trinity House staffers usually cover the shelter till 10 pm and then our Theta Kai fraternity men do the overnight shift till 8 am the next morning.  Please pray for the staff, our guests and warm weather.

2012 BOXED CONTRIBUTION SETS

Your 2012 contribution envelopes are located in the Narthex.  If you would like to receive a box set for 2012 and one hasn’t been provided for you, please contact Kathy Fisher in the church office.

ELECTION OF CONSISTORY MEMBERS

The following members have been asked to fulfill the current vacant position of Elder for a three year term: Jasper Boelhouwer, Jr, Ann Hays and David Howarth. Vacant Deacon Positions:  Mark Horr, & Michael Van Glahn, Jr.  The election will take place on Sunday, February 5, immediately following worship in the sanctuary.

BENEVOLENCE FUND

Starting in February 2012 our congregation will be giving a special offering on the first Sunday of each month, Communion Sunday.  It is expected that this will provide a benevolence fund from which gifts will be made for special needs, programs, projects, and disaster response both locally and globally.  During the months of Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas, we will not have the first Sunday offering, but will continue as we do now with a designated recipients announced prior to the offering.  Our congregation has been very generous when asked to give, time, talent and funds for our own needs as well as the needs of others.  We believe that the creation of a benevolence fund will provide additional flexibility in our Second Reformed Church giving.  Special envelopes will be available for this purpose.  Your gifts and prayers for those in mind are greatly appreciated.
