Second Reformed Church Announces
“Volunteers are needed!”
If your church or organization is interested in helping our church provide meals and fill supervision time slots please contact us! Of course, individual volunteers are always welcome.
Through the FISH Hospitality Program Inc., families (mostly women and children) who do not have homes of their own are hosted for one week, several times a year, at Second Reformed Church, New Brunswick (one of several host sites). See the mission statement below for more information about FISH.
We need volunteers to help provide supervision (really a presence) in the evenings from 7-10 pm, and an even greater need as these volunteers are hard to come by, to sleep overnight from 10 pm to 7 a.m.
The mission of the FISH Hospitality Program (FHP) is Interfaith Hospitaity Network, to serve homeless families and single women by providing shelter and meals, and such other assistance as we are able, in order to give them a new opportunity to live independently in their communities as respected families and individuals. FHP does assist and enable our guests to obtain housing, jobs, medical services, and other assistance to which they are entitled, as far as resources allow. FHP serves people in need without regard to race, religion, national origin, or disability.
FISH serves Middlesex, Union and Somerset counties, and was started Feb 11 1990.
Patient, respectful adults who can be friendly but not intrusive, and who will follow simple rules such as no photography of guests, are sought to help out.
If you are willing to volunteer or would like more information please call either Rev Doug Shepler at 732-439-3668 or Phyllis Beals at 732-331-3416.
You can visit the FISH website at www.fishhospitality.org for more information about FISH in general.
